‘Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9 NIV)

This verse was a bit of a ‘strap line’ for me a few years ago and underneath it all I think it probably still is quite important to me. The whole story of the exodus actually resonates very strongly with my own journey, in terms of wondering where God was or is, wandering aimlessly at times and always being surprised by where I end up!

Sometimes I have needed to hold onto that verse because it was the only thing that was keeping me going, the only thing that made sense in my life, the only sense of security and stability! Being ordained when I was older, when I was a ‘senior academic’ was hard work and still is hard but God is with me and has been all the way through. My parents split up when I was 4 or 5, I didn’t know what I wanted to do after school and made a few silly decisions, moved down south, got married, had my 1st child who was born with a rare children’s cancer type illness! Had my 2nd child, went to Uni gained my degree and divorce in the same year! Did a post grad in youth & community work moved away from home (again) and for the past 12 years have been working in the same place, studies for another Post grad certificate and then a Masters and finally ordination happened!

3 years down the line and I still am unclear as to where and what next, but one thing I do know is that God is with me – even when I wonder how far away He is and if he heard me speak. I know He has brought me this far and will continue to be with me and because of that I can be strong and very courageous! How awesome is that!!
