Pray without ceasing? (@dotsters)

Hannah said, “Oh no, sir—please! I’m a woman hard used. I haven’t been drinking. Not a drop of wine or beer. The only thing I’ve been pouring out is my heart, pouring it out to God. Don’t for a minute think I’m a bad woman. It’s because I’m so desperately unhappy and in such pain that I’ve stayed here so long.” (1 Samuel 1:15, 16 MSG)

Hannah was a woman who desperately wanted a child and she prayed long & hard until she was spoken to by the priest who heard her plea and prayed for her. I have often wondered how long is long enough when praying for things. And in this situation Hannah seems to have been completely lost in her longing for what she wanted.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI wonder whether I have ever been so totally lost in prayer about anything like Hannah! There are many things I have prayed for but I think I become sidetracked from becoming lost in prayer! That is partly due to my personality I think where the repetitive stresses me and so I need to move on to stop me feeling stressed – however as I want to become more whole perhaps the discipline involved is the key!

Do I really want such a thing to be lost in prayer for that thing? Is it something God would be glorified by? Do I have the discipline to keep on praying for whatever it is no matter how long it takes?

I have always said that I am not an intercessor, but I do wonder if it’s a cop-out!!  Perhaps now is the time to put my money where my mouth is and start to become lost in prayer for something that is on my heart!!

Would you join me? Perhaps there is something you are praying for or want prayer for… Let’s commit ourselves today to ‘pray without ceasing’
