‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ by @paulblakey

1 Chronicles – the Priest’s point of view of the happenings of 1 and 2 Kings. The theme is one of importance of worshipping God and the positive impact this has on a nation – God blesses those nations who trust him.

The book starts with the equivalent of ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ – the records and genealogy of people gone. God forgets no one – everyone is unique, special, amazing and has a plan and purpose within God’s plan and purpose.

In the midst of this long list we have a pause in chapter 4 for a ‘status update’ around the life of Jabez:

Jabez was a better man than his brothers, a man of honor. His mother had named him Jabez (Oh, the pain!), saying, “A painful birth! I bore him in great pain!” Jabez prayed to the God of Israel: “Bless me, O bless me! Give me land, large tracts of land. And provide your personal protection—don’t let evil hurt me.” God gave him what he asked.

Isn’t it incredible that the life of one person can be highlighted in such a way? When we centre our world around God amazing things can happen that will still be standing and remembered for generations to come.

How is God calling you to centre your life around what God wants? How can you make your life be a ‘status update’ not simply a name on a long list of names?

As I am writing this I am watching a UCB interview with Gerald Coates – http://vimeo.com/83298504 – someone who centred his life around what God was calling him to do and as a result, along with others, changed the face of the UK church.

The challenge – is God speaking to you to be like Jabez?
