Psalm 121 (@dotsters)

Hills and Mountains

I look up to the mountains; does my strength come from mountains? No, my strength comes from GOD, who made heaven, and earth, and mountains.

He won’t let you stumble, your Guardian God won’t fall asleep. Not on your life! Israel’s Guardian will never doze or sleep.

GOD ’s your Guardian, right at your side to protect you— Shielding you from sunstroke, sheltering you from moonstroke.

GOD guards you from every evil, he guards your very life. He guards you when you leave and when you return, he guards you now, he guards you always. (Psalm 121:1-8 MSG)

So a week ago today ( writing this on Tuesday) I was in North Wales for a reason that may become obvious sooner rather than later. I arrived at the destination having travelled from Chester through beautiful countryside and hills and was shown a beautiful sight!! Hills, fields and an amazing silence – I could almost feel the peace – & the verse that came to my mind was the first verse of psalm 121.

This psalm has been with me for quite some time especially because of what the whole psalm says! God is where my strength comes, where my guidance comes from, God will not let me stumble or fall and He will guard me from evil!

The thing is God wants the best for me, but I often get in the way of His best! I often think I know better than God and rely on my own strength, my own ideas and that leads me to often stumbling and falling because I’ve taken my eye of the One who I’m following! He can still guide me, but it is so much easier when we keep our eyes on Him, listening for His voice, watching where He is moving. Keeping our eyes on Him gives us strength even in the darkest times and believe me when I say I have had some very dark times in my life, especially over the past few years.

I lift my eyes to the hills ( mountains) and even though they make me feel safe they can’t give me strength, God alone can give me the strength that is needed for the next step in my life! His strength that is never ending and consistent!

Where do you draw your strength from? Yourself? Your family and friends or God?
