God’s Decree (@dotsters)

13-14 “When you come looking for me, you’ll find me.

“Yes, when you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I’ll make sure you won’t be disappointed.” God’s Decree.

“I’ll turn things around for you. I’ll bring you back from all the countries into which I drove you”—God’s Decree—“bring you home to the place from which I sent you off into exile. You can count on it. Jeremiah 29:13

How often do you (and me) really stop to think about where we are and what we are doing? Are we going where we think God is leading us? Are we actually listening to God’s promptings?

Over the past 2 years I have had a real time of being uncertain where I was meant to be, what I was doing didn’t seem to be the right fit for me anymore and yet I was still wanting to be there, doing what I was doing! I had some time off work, dealing with depression caused by a few factors at work and personal issues, and that really made me stop and read my bible more, pray longer than I had and really start to tune in again to God, through the Holy Spirit.

This time last year was another difficult patch as I was about to leave the cathedral where I had been for my curacy and again, that felt hard as I was an NSM curate and so it was a voluntary position and not costing them anything… So more searching and seeking where I needed to be – this led me to a church where I was able to receive from God in a way I had not been able to receive from him for a long time as I was simply someone in the congregation and where the elders said come and rest awhile. It was a healing place and a place I think where healing took place for me and also allowed me to seek God for the future.

Then in May yet another thing, as I was ‘invited’ to a meeting to discuss redundancy… Long story and not handled at all well by the place I was working and since then things have happened that don’t sit right with a place like that, however, what an awesome God we serve… I have come ‘home’ maybe not from exile to my real home, or perhaps this is my ‘real home’, as I have a beautiful home, great neighbours and people I work with and for and a beautiful area of the country in which to live and work.

Deep searching and listening brings us back into line with God, getting serious about it and not simply saying it because we think we ought to be serious, but longing for God to be with us every minute of the day, being grateful for everything he does, being thankful even in the middle of hard times and praising Him when you don’t want to praise.

The passage also reminds me of Matthew 6:33 seek first the kingdom of God. Seek FIRST, not 2nd or 3rd or when we have done everything we need to do or when there are no more distractions… ‘When you come looking for me you will find me,’ God will not hide from you or me especially when we are serious about looking… Are you wanting to be intentional about looking for him today and for the rest of your life? In this digital age, there are ever increasing distractions, don’t let fb, twitter, snap chat, timehop, pinterest etc stop you from searching for God… perhaps have a fast from the internet (and yes I do know how hard that will be for some of you and me) but perhaps it is what we need at this time of remembering the birth of our Saviour
