Zephaniah – a prophet to Judah during the reign of King Josiah. The prophecy was written before in the final decade before Judah was destroyed in 586BC. Zephaniah’s message is a stern one based on the righteous judgment of God. When God judges sin those who know the most suffer the most. Judgment begins with Judah then the other nations – however if Judah repents from the heart, God will put aside the judgment and give life and blessing.
Zephaniah 2 says:
Gather together, gather yourselves together,
you shameful nation,
before the decree takes effect
and that day passes like windblown chaff,
before the Lord’s fierce anger
comes upon you,
before the day of the Lord’s wrath
comes upon you.
Seek the Lord, all you humble of the land,
you who do what he commands.
Seek righteousness, seek humility;
perhaps you will be sheltered
on the day of the Lord’s anger.
Seek righteousness, seek humility – just take a moment to ponder on that phrase especially within the current world situation. Pray that for our leaders (not just the UK ones but every world leader). Now pray that for our enemies – those who stand against us, those at war with us – that they would come to that place of righteousness and humility.
The promise of God for all who do is:
The Lord your God is with you,
the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He will take great delight in you;
in his love he will no longer rebuke you,
but will rejoice over you with singing.
Righteousness, Justice, Humility, Repentance, Love – powerful words that when put into action change history! Keep on praying this for our leaders, the church, ourselves and our enemies… Amen!
